Meet Our Residents

wpd33ec1b5_0f.jpg

You are always most welcome to visit our facilities at Gwalior and Snehalaya [located at the 16 km milestone in Jhansi Road, Village Sikroda].

In the meantime, let’s introduce some of our residents who live as ‘family’ in our purpose-built cottages surrounded by play-areas and gardens.

The environment at Snehalaya is a marked contrast to the rigid, formal atmosphere that exists in most traditional Indian orphanages.

It is truly a ‘Care Home’ for destitute children, homeless women and the aged. When the entire project is completed Snehalaya will be home to over 200.

She one of the first children to become a Snehalaya resident from the Mother Teresa’s  Home. She continues to make progress with ongoing school and other activities in Snehalaya bringing out her potential and now is undergoing vocational training too.

wp569a037c_0f.jpg Bittu is 12 years old. He suffers from Cerebral Palsy and consequently has Speech and Learning difficulties. He enjoys music  --- but not if it’s too loud! It is often difficult for carers and volunteers to interact with him.  However, when he smiles, it makes it all worthwhile.

wpe86a7071_0f.jpg Lali -- She has epilepsy and Learning Difficulties but nevertheless she is a happy little girl of about 6 years. Since coming under our care, she has improved a great deal and can almost manage for herself.

wpaf094d88_0f.jpg Mohit -- 11 years old, he was originally admitted under our respite care programme as his parents were not able to manage him by themselves. He has cerebral palsy and  Learning and Speech Difficulties.  He loves to share a joke and aims to impress those around him. He tries to run fast and  tends to fall frequently because of balancing problems with physical disabilities in his feet and ankles. He has been seen by Orthopaedic Surgeons and may need surgical intervention to correct his deformities after he has attained 18 years of age.

Ayush -- is about 5 years old, has epilepsy, eating disorders, wpc0f8741c_0f.jpg Learning and Speech difficulties. He suffers with severe degree of gastro-oesophageal reflux as could be diagnosed only after many tests including isotope scans for his eating disorders. Now he is under care with ongoing treatment as  advised by experts in Delhi. So far there is no significant improvement.  He is also likely to undergo surgical intervention in near future.. A sweet natured little boy, he was abandoned  at the gates of ‘Snehalaya’ by his family.

wp7e5897b8_0f.jpg Vishal -- An 11 year old who suffers from cerebral palsy, Learning and Speech Difficulties.
