You are always most welcome to visit our facilities at Gwalior and Snehalaya [located at the 16 km milestone in Jhansi Road, Village Sikroda on the way to Jhansi from Gwalior].

In the meantime, let’s introduce some of our residents, who live as ‘family’ in our purpose-built cottages surrounded by play-areas and gardens. The environment at Snehalaya is a marked contrast to the rigid, formal atmosphere that exists in most traditional Indian orphanages. It is truly a ‘Care Home’ for destitute children mostly with disabilities and or sick, homeless women and the aged. When the entire project is completed, Snehalaya will be 'home' to over 200 disabled and destitute children with a school and hospital on site to provide education and healthcare for residents there and those in surrounding villages.

desperately ill with measles in 2007 and is now a happy little girl. She loves exploring, enjoys attention and has a delightful smile.

Meenoo Jr. An 8 years old  girl, she came to us with her mother Rupa from Mercy Home.  This is the first homeless mother and child living together in Snehalaya,. The mother was homeless, mentally ill, had learning disabilities and epilepsy..  Meenoo is normal–she just never had an opportunity for any education or environmental development.  She  actively participates in all the sports, cultural and play activities with other children.. An intelligent child, she was refused admission in the mainstream school because of late arrival after school year had already started, but we have already sent her to mainstream school in 2009.

Papan is a 7 year old child with learning disabilities, who has been brought to Snehalaya in June 2008 as an emergency when he was noticed being abused in Mercy Home having been there for about six months. When he came to Snehalaya, he was  scared of any one and every thing and was literally mute. He has settled well and has learnt to speak.. He enjoys drawing and painting in school, takes active part in drama and play activities. He is a keen dancer too, following on Bollywood rhythm and tunes.

Radha  is 9 years old, living with other children in Snehalaya like any other normal child undergoing education in a nearby mainstream school. She continues with second line ARV medications. Radha is first child who came to us with HIV which made us  start the hospice for children with HIV in Gwalior,  With the opening of our new care home, the hospice has been merged into Snehalaya.  Radha is very intelligent and bubbly child, takes active part in all sports activities winning prizes all the time. She is a keen dancer and interest in painting.

Vishal is 12 year old and has Cerebral Palsy with learning disabilities. He was unable to walk when he came to us but now he walks with frame and  participates in sports. He is a very bright boy who enjoys school and loves to dance. He is particular about his appearance and a bit of a “bossy boots” especially when it comes to the needs of the other children as he is very caring.
